Covid19 Loops

On Friday May 1st, starting at 5am, I aim to run 119km to raise money for the amazing nurses & HSE staff currently working the frontline in Cavan General Hospital amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic. The money raised will go along way towards ensuring the nurses, doctors & staff are fed everyday in the hospital! I am also raising money for a 2nd cause, the very important Meals on Wheels based in Drumsna, Co Leitrim.  

My challenge, The Covid19 Loops is so called as I’ll be running 19 loops around my house, each loop is 6.22km & will add up to 119km and also climbing between 1400-1500 metres! I am hoping to do this within 24hrs.  This will be 30km longer than I have ever ran so will be a big challenge! 

My wife & 2 of her sisters are nurses so I was always going to try and raise money for the frontline staff. This is a very tough time for nurses. They are putting themselves at risk everyday and their lives have changed so much. Some of them are not seeing their families & the ones that do have to keep their distance from them. They can’t hug or kiss their loved one’s until this virus slows  down and that is very hard. The reason I’m using the photo for my profile is, FAMILIES . My wife & mother to our children, is a superhero like all nurses in the country. We all look forward to giving them huge hugs when this is all over. 

I’m also trying to raise money for Meals on Wheels at the Drumsna Community  Resource Center in Leitrim not to far from where I live. Lately I went out with them on deliveries to the people who are very vulnerable at this time. The residents are so happy when a member of staff arrives with their meal.  The Meals on Wheels staff do a unbelievable job. We are so luck to have these people in our community. 

I’m really hoping to hit my target of €1119 with the help of all of you that donate. I’m only doing something very small compared to the fantastic people that are the heart of our community helping Covid19 patients and the vulnerable at this dark time in our lives.
