Covering The Shaggs "Philosophy of the World"

I want more people to listen to the Shaggs' music. Their songs did something (in my life) that I want other people (to have the opportunity) to experience as well. (And if you’re reading this, the Shaggs likely influenced you as well).

 

My name is Andrew Thoreen, and I'm a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and video creator. In 2019, I decided to re-harmonize a Shaggs’ song, reimagining it as a rock song. My intention to do just one turned into three and a desire to rearrange more. I'm seeking funding to help me write and record rearrangements of the songs on the album "Philosophy of the World" and produce videos of each piece featuring different collaborators.

 

 

 

I just released my third cover video of Who Are Parents (Oct 2021) feat. bathtub cig and Tom Myers and have released My Pal Foot Foot feat. Shane Leonard and Pat Keen (2020) and Philosophy of the World feat. Ian Meltzer (2019). I'm looking for funders to help me cover and produce videos for the remaining 9 songs on the album and cover of production costs of doing so:

 

mixing

mastering

studio time

video editing

design of artwork

compensation for collaborators

writing time and administration

 

I'm hoping to raise at least $12,000 (about $1,300 per song)

 

**And for all you Shaggs purists out there - I am not trying to make their music better, nor do I want to replace what they did. I’m trying to present their music to people in a way that I hear honors the brilliance of what they made.

 

I will send out updates with private links of the demos of the songs as I'm working on them so you can hear and see the process!

 

So although I do not think I can please anybody in this world with this project, I’m hoping you’ll help me make it a little better by getting this out. Without your help, it may take me nine more years to finish covering the album...
