I never in a million years thought I would have to do this but I would like to ask the great network of people around me for help with the costs of providing medical care abroad for my father as well as the cost of our safe return to Europe during this ongoing crisis. I have provided a short description of the events which have occurred leading up to this current moment to hopefully make clear why we are asking for financial help. Any donation, big or small will be greatly appreciated by me and my family.
The Disappearance
In January 2026, my father went missing in Cambodia. After a desperate search involving international authorities, he was found through the help of social media, kind-hearted locals and a private detective hired by my family, on the 6th February 2026 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He was in a severely weakened state, was seriously malnourished (having lost 15kg in the space of about a month), has experienced serious trauma and is suffering from serious mental health issues on top of having lost all of his belongings including his identification documents.
The Current Crisis
I travelled to Cambodia because my father is unable to travel alone. I am now here by his side, but what was already a very trying journey home has turned into a nightmare.
We are now both stranded in Cambodia due to the large number of flights being cancelled across the world. Our flight home via Dubai was cancelled due to the crisis in the Middle East. Because his emergency travel documents were issued for a single, specific route, we cannot simply book a different flight. Any change to his travel route requires us to go through a kafkaesque process of receiving new emergency travel documents and applying for a new exit visa from the local authorities which all adds to the number of days we might be forced to stay abroad. This delay is adding to what were already quite significant costs and while we are doing what we can to safely return to Europe, the limitations placed on us by my fathers current condition as well as his emergency travel document mean that we are competing with a large number of stranded travellers for a very small number of flights that we are actually able to board back to Europe.
Why I Am Asking for Help
After almost a month in a hospital at a cost of $350+/day (no free health care provided in Cambodia), his travel insurance policy has declined to cover this incident and this has left the family with a significant medical bill as well as the ever increasing costs of our return home.
We also want to ensure that from the moment we land back in Poland, we provide him with the appropriate medical assistance for his current condition so that he can begin the long journey of recovery.
How You Can Help
I am doing everything in my power to ensure this nightmare ends with our safe return to Europe. Every penny raised will go directly to settling the Cambodian medical fees, the costs of getting us both safely back home and any future costs associated with his long term care not covered by the state back in Poland.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has already helped. Myself and my family are eternally grateful for your kindness.
