A phrase my dad and I often exchanged and reminded each other of because life is short and you don't "have" to do anything with it; rather, you "get" to do something with it. It was a mindset I taught him as a means of getting him through each treatment, each test, scan and result, each day.

My dad was called Home on May 30, 2022. He was a bright spark in the world, especially mine. He was a chef professionally, but a total "girl dad" at heart. He was a warrior that often toughed things out with little to no complaints. He touched the lives of so many, not only through his craft, but his good heart - never hesitating to lend a helping hand or donate to a good cause when possible.

After his advanced cancer and heart failure diagnoses and despite having insurance coverage, his cost of treatment and care became insurmountable. Simply having health insurance proved to be insufficient in protecting him or us from financial hardship.
