Cover Vet Expenses from Neighbor Poisoning Buzzy

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kayleigh Burke. As many of you know, we moved to Texas about a year ago. Since moving here we have been helping stray dogs and working with various rescues. We have spent a lot of money out of pocket on these dogs and now we are dealing with a crisis with our own puppy. Our sweet Buzzy has been intentionally poisoned by an unpleasant neighbor.

We brought him into the emergency vet, MissionVet Specialty and Emergency, on the night of September 4th. After we returned home from a birthday dinner, we noticed right away that Buzzy was not acting like his normal, happy puppy self. He was hiding under the back porch and refused to come out for a bit and then the major red flag was that he was rejecting food. Buzzy NEVER refuses a meal. He always runs right to his crate to have his meals. When we got there, they conducted a parvo test while we were in the car and then noticed how pale his gums were and decided he needed to be continuously monitored. Buzzy kept declining as his gums were now white and he was struggling to breathe. The vet tech, AJ, rushed to get the vet and she came into the room and did an ultrasound on his abdomen, that was clear, then she moved to his chest and immediately said "This is not good." She then showed us the screen and that his chest cavity was filling with fluid. Our options at this point were to euthanize or hospitalize but there wasn't a safe way to bring him home. He has since been in the hospital. They aspirated a liter of bloody fluid, according to the vet Buzzy would have been bleeding into his chest for 4-7 days. The next morning when the senior vet was on call and had looked at Buzzy, we were informed that this was rat poison ingestion. This was a shock to us because we do not have rat poison in our home nor have we used it in our backyard. The following day our foster dog Mac, started bleeding from his gums and had blood pouring from the side of his mouth, pooling at the bottom of his crate. This solidified that our sweet puppies had been poisoned. I rushed Mac and our other dog, Lupin, to the vet and they started them on the antidote, Vitamin K.

This morning, September 9th, we received a call from the vet telling us that Buzzy could still not come home. His blood clotting factors are still low and now they are also concerned about his kidney function. This is very disappointing, as he seemed to be responding well to the blood and plasma transfusions he had received the day before. These extra treatments and hospital time are doubling the estimated price. We were originally quoted $7500 for his treatment up until now and the new estimate is $12500 to continue treatment. We are reaching out to friends and family to see if anyone can donate to help us cover this cost. We were prepared for a few thousand but this is more than we are able to manage on our own when they need it upfront to continue treating Buzzy. Please consider donating and sharing with your friends. Thank you.
