Help bring Daniel home!

Early Wednesday morning on the 8th of November, our darling Daniel was involved in a serious motor accident whilst on holiday in Bali. The details of the incident are still mostly unknown as Daniel, whilst conscious, is sadly not awake or speaking. What we do know is that he was found 20 meters away from his scooter, meaning he fell at force. It isn’t known what time the accident happened but when the locals found him, they believed he was robbed because he had no personal belongings or identification on him. He was finally identified after locals posted photos of him and the location.

His family are devastated and sad that we are not there with him and that we have not been able to speak directly with him due to him not being awake. We are worried about his state both mentally and physically and can only imagine how much fear and pain he must be in right now. He is currently in hospital in Jimbaran; he has sustained a brain injury, fractured skull, a hematoma which prevents him from being able to fly home until the swelling resolves. He also has a broken right arm; both radius and ulner bones, fractured two ribs, a broken toe and has some internal bleeding and missing teeth.

If you know Daniel, you know he is a ‘heart on his sleeve’, ‘go hard or go home’ kind of guy, which at times leads to impulsive decisions and forgotten precautions. In essence what I’m saying is he booked this trip impromptu and has consequently forgotten to arrange travel insurance, meaning his medical costs are not covered. He is unable to receive treatment and undergo operations until costs are paid in full, in advance. So currently, he is waiting in hospital without receiving the necessary treatment he needs in order to recover. And worryingly, until we can gather finances, he will continue waiting in pain, barely conscious, for us to gather round and help him get the money he needs to receive treatment.

Daniel has always been a generous, larger than life kind of man. He’s a loyal friend, a loved son, a darling brother and most importantly a father to three children, Maddison, Indiana and Lincoln - who are anxiously waiting back home for him to return. We are hoping that Daniel's family, friends and wider community (and any one who reads this and is in the position to help) can rally round him right now and help support his recovery by donating as much as you are willing or able to. It’s a tough time, the world is in crisis and costs are increasing, so we appreciate and understand how much smaller those pockets are to dig into, but every little bit helps. Let’s show Daniel the love and support he has and truly needs around him right now. We are asking for $10k in donations but hoping for $15k due to the recovery costs & extended stay in Bali post op.

The donated money will go toward all medical and recovery costs - these costs add up to at least $20, 000 (if everything goes to plan and there are no hiccups or surprises) and include:

Hospital stay, nursing, surgery for his broken arm that requires rods to be placed, surgeon & anaesthetist, medications, bedside monitor, extended stay in Bali due to hematomas & flight risk, another cat scan so he can be cleared to fly home.

This is going to be a long and painful recovery for Daniel. We are hoping that when Daniel does finally wake up, and he see’s the love and support from his friends and family on this page, that it will be the support and motivation he needs to focus on healing, recovery and returning home.
