Hi, my name is Bailey. My mother in Law Mirian was admitted for an emergency surgery on Saturday Nov 1 in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico after suffering from severe abdominal pain. Thinking it was simply an infection diagnosed on the previous day she withstood the excruciating pain that just kept worsening until she couldn't take it any more. She was admitted to hospital and told immediately she'd need surgery. They knew something was terribly wrong, but until they had her on the table they didnt realise her appendix had already been leaking harmful fluid into her abdomen for an unknown amount of time. The family was quoted an astronomical sum of 400 000 pesos or over $30 000 canadian dollars to preform the life saving surgery and to cover some costs of her stay at the private hospital she was admitted to.

In order to meet this sum as quickly as it needed to happen, we've taken on a large fincial debt to friends and family members who gave significant amounts of their savings to contribute to this procedure. We wish to repay those people as quickly as possible which will not happen without having to lose the family house we have in Cozumel. Any contribution will help towards decreasing the stress on my Mother in Law so that she can focus on her recovery and possibly save our family home. We wish to repay these debts, continue providing adequate healthcare for Mirian and try our best to keep the family house intact without having to let it go.

As a Canadian we are seldom impacted by the costs of the medical system to this degree, to be told your survival is based on a lump sum of cash is one of the more disturbing things I've had to see my husband go through.
