Hi. My names Megan i'm a 25 year old Autistic and ADHD woman who suffers with Chronic Migraines which is a condition that is diagnosed as having migraine episodes for at least 15 days a month and showing migraine symptoms for 8 days of the month.
The international Headache Society and World Health Organisation recognised migraine as one of the most debilitating neurological conditions globally.
Typically my migraines are managed with Rimegepant, a medication that is effective on eliminating the pain and symptoms but often leaves me unable to complete other daily activities. I am currently under NNUH's Neurology team and I am supposed to receive Botox treatment for my migraines every 3 months. Botox eliminates 80% of my migraines and reduces how intense my migraines are one when sneaks through.
I have seen 2 Neurologists who have both left. I was then handed over to a part time headache nurse, after being 8 weeks late for treatment due to waiting times (this was in January). She explained that the waiting times would get worse and she is only part time. I began the complaints process hoping to be heard and high light the issues. In April i was contacted by the complaints team and who ever was handling Neurology to tell me there is no longer a Neurology department. The two specialists and single consultant had left. I was told to ask my GP to find somewhere private for me while the hospital rebuilds the unit, which could take months.
Which brings me to today. I am 1 month over due from treatment. My pain levels, fatigue and episodes are pretty bad. I have contacted Private clinics across the country and with no luck. Treatment costs start from around £699 onwards, every 3 months for the treatment i receive that is usually covered by the NHS. However i have found somewhere in Glasgow that offers the treatment i need for £250 as well as jawline treatment which i would benefit from for my suspected TMJ (which i was told the NHS won't treat).
I am hoping that by saving up my own funds and putting the fund raiser out there that i can buy myself a bit more time for either my neurology team to be up and functional or for PIP to finally approve my requests for support.
The costs:
Migraine Treatment: £250
Flights: £50-£100
Hotel: £30-£60
Jaw Treatment: £250
I have left a bit of room for food/ travel /accommodation fluctuation.
I know with the treatment that I will be able to be back on my feet, full of energy once more. Be able to work more. Socialise. See my friends. Do the things i enjoy.
Thankyou.
