Hi, I'm Mischa, but most importantly, I'm Peter's dad. Peter, or Perfect Pete (or Stinky Pete) as many have come to know him, has been a part of our lives for the last six years. I might be biased in saying this, but he is the best little white cat I've ever met (and I think many people who have met him would agree).
On Friday, February 10th, Peter was being his usual cute, playful self, running around the apartment at lightspeed and playing with a twisty tie. The weather was nice and I had the back window open for some fresh air. As he's done hundreds of times before, Pete got the zoomies and jumped up to the window sill. Unfortunately, this time, he misjudged his jump and hit the screen full force. To our horror, the screen fell out and Peter went with it 3.5 stories down to the concrete below. He survived the fall, but he was pretty beaten up. Fortunately, for both of us, I was home and saw it happen and Katy and Chalcey were able to rush over in an instant to help save Pete. We got him into the carrier and rushed him to MedVet emergency care.
The MedVet team, who have been amazing, took Peter into their care. After seeing him fall and seeing how beaten up he was after it, I was fearing for the worst. It is a small miracle (for a small cat) that he survived and with fairly minor injuries, all things considered. He has a broken left front paw which will never be 100%, but shouldn't require surgery. His most major injury is a fractured hard palate, which is a fairly common injury cats sustain when they have traumatic accidents. It will most likely require surgery, but it should heal fully. Outside of these injuries, his skeletal structure and his organs are all completely intact and his cognitive function is perfect. With some surgery and recovery and lots of treats (when his mouth heals), he should be back to his Perfect Peter self and should have no lingering effects from this, aside from a slightly wonky paw.
Peter and I are forever grateful to Katy and Chalcey for rushing to his aid and for all the love and support over the years. We're also eternally grateful for the care he's gotten at the emergency vet. They've called twice daily to let me know how he's doing and once he warmed up to them, they gave him all of the gentle face pets he asked for.
Unfortunately, all pets seem to think it's best to have emergencies on weekends, which is extremely pricey. The low end for Peter's vet bill is $5,000, which is what this GoFundMe is set for. Your well wishes and future face pets are more than enough. Anything above and beyond is greatly appreciated.
I love you, and we all love Pete.
