Help Cover Nahkos Emergency Surgery Expenses
Donation protected
In September 2022 Jerrod and I received news that our dog had a very small mass on his spleen as well as multiple malignant masses on his skin. At the time, the best option was to wait and see about his spleen, and to remove the cancer growths on his skin. It was a costly surgery to remove his skin tumors, but he healed well and became our happy healthy boy again.
In October of 2022 I broke my wrist. Because my job requires physical labor, this put me out of work for what would be three and a half months so I could recover. This left Jerrod to be the only one able to work. To make ends meet, Jerrod even helped me start a baked goods delivery service. Through this we luckily saved enough to cover Nahko’s first surgery, and to continue making small deposits into our savings account for a down payment on a home.
Fast forward to January of 2023. Our sweet boy, Nahko started to exhibit the signs our vet warned us to look concerning the mass in his spleen. His gums were white as bone, and he could hardly move to do his favorite activities like going for a walk or playing with his favorite toys. He became lethargic and sickly extremely fast. We rushed him to the vet and unfortunately his red blood cell count was quickly lowering, leaving him susceptible to his spleen rupturing. We were referred to the closest animal emergency clinic in hopes of saving his life. Little did we know that the surgery to save him would cost almost as much as we have saved as for a small down payment on a house. We were quoted 4600 for the surgery, and at most 7600 depending on how much blood he needs transfused. We didn’t have it in our hearts to give up on saving him, so we went ahead with the emergency surgery. He will be in the hospital for 24-72hrs depending on his healing. There are many things that can go wrong while undergoing this surgery, but we are hopeful that he will be able to make it. The doctors assured us that it would be for his benefit, and we are trusting them to take care of our boy.
We are absolutely distraught, and have never asked for help like this before, but we have completely maxed out our savings account plus some. With Jerrod being the only one able to work full time until my wrist is fully healed, we need help. We are immensely grateful for the emotional support we have received from close friends and family during this time, and are also grateful for any kind words, donations or sharing of our story. We would be so grateful to get this debt out from under us so that we can focus on taking care of our boy post surgery. Nahko truly is family to us, and has supported us through many trials over the last year. We just want to give that same love and care back to him.
To those who read our story, thank you so much. Any amount helps, and we thank all of you so much.
