Cover Wendy’s Medical Related Expenses

This past few weeks have been a whirlwind to say the least. About 2.5 weeks ago mom woke up with excruciating neck pain. I have never seen her like that before. It was pretty scary to say the least. She went to the ED twice and didn’t get any answers. She had to take time off work as it slowly got better. Just as that was becoming manageable she was hit with a diverticulitis flare on Thursday 1/25. It was so bad that she went to the ED again. They did a CT and it showed diverticulitis. They sent her home on pain meds and an antibiotic. Saturday morning she went back to the ED. She actually passed out from the pain. Once in the ED they were able to manage her pain. They did another CT showing improvement. They just couldn’t explain why she was in so much pain. Reluctantly we went home. Sunday she was feeling pretty good and resting. Monday morning she woke up and the pain was back. We took her to St. Marys this time and finally got some answers.

The CT showed her diverticulitis was back and worse than ever. She had a perforation and abscess. They didn’t give her a choice as air and fluid were leaking into her abdomen. After 3.5 hours she came out of surgery. They removed her sigmoid colon. About 12 inches total. She is now recovering at Methodist. They informed us that it was much worse than the CT showed. She had free floating infection in the abdomen. Her colon was in bad shape. They said they don’t know how she was functioning and not in pain sooner.

Anyone that has met Wendy knows that she is tough and a true fighter. She would go above and beyond for anyone no matter what. She is a giver at heart and cares for people deeply. She is also one that doesn’t ask for help when she needs it.

She has been through a lot the last year and has taken on a lot by herself. Her activity is going to be limited for the next 6 weeks and unfortunately the bills don’t stop. If you are able to help in any way it would be greatly appreciated. All she wants is prayers, but we know she needs more than that.
