Hi there. My name is Naomi and I am a full time carer for my 14 yr old disabled son. We have a dog called Lexi who as my son says is ‘his best friend’. She has never been trained to be one but she is like an assistance dog for my son who has a rare genetic condition causing complex epilepsy, intellectual disability and autism amongst many other conditions.
All my pets have always been insured. Sadly, Lexi is currently an inpatient at our vets surgery with severe pancreatitis. She is very unwell and the current bill currently stands at over £4000. After speaking to her insurance company today, (she’s been with them about 5-6 years and had a previous claim for the same a few years ago therefore I cannot move insurance company), they have informed me that there are so many limits on the policy now that although my excess is only £155 I’m probably going to be out of pocket of around £1500 currently. An amount I really cannot afford. I’ve borrowed, used all my savings and used a credit card so far but funds are now depleted. As it stands right now I need to pay the final £1650 tomorrow when the vet discharge her to my care. She is not ready to come home and is far from well but I cannot afford the cost of another 24 hours in their care knowing the insurance payout is so tiny I’m comparison plus the vets are hoping in her own environment she may start to pick up quicker. I will still obviously be taking advise from them but medicines and care will be down to me which I’m 100% willing to do obviously.
I’ve never asked for anything like this before and hate to do it now but if anyone can please spare anything, no matter how small we as a family would appreciate so, so much. We are not out of the woods yet with her condition and there may be further costs incurred but the extra stress of the costs on top is really causing me distress. I just want our baby home and my son is distraught without her. When the insurance settles the amount they are willing to pay and I’ve paid back what I’ve borrowed, if
there is any left I will be passing it on to an animal charity.
thank you for reading and thank you so much in advance for any help you can give us. Xx
