Hi, my name is Courtney and on behalf of coach Jim Govanis of Riverside FC, a KDSL/TMSL mens soccer club, we are hoping to raise funds for a teammate who has sustained an injury in a game impacting his ability to work. Last night, Sergio was injured in a tackle. He was not able to recover and due to his momentum planted awkwardly tearing his ACL fully. Sergio came to Canada from Columbia 3 years ago as an international student at the University of Waterloo. Due to the high cost, he had to pause his studies and pursue work as a painter. This is a physically intensive job that requires long hours of standing. Insurance coverage and OHIP are also not available to him, which means all bills, including his x-ray which cost $1,200, hospital visit, rehab, and any other tests, will be paid out of pocket.

We hope we can help Sergio with his bills over the next couple of weeks until he is physically able to get back to work.

He hopes to be back on the pitch soon but will require surgery and tenuious rehab before then. He is a fantastic player and a great teammate, always arriving to the field with a smile on his face and a drive to help his team win each game.
