Hello! My name is Kassidy Wright. When I was 12, I was diagnosed with a rare, genetic condition called Von Hippel Lindau disease. VHL for short. This terrible disease is the same one that took my mama from me in 2017 and is something that I will deal with for the rest of my life. Navigating this without her has been the most challenging part of it all. VHL causes tumors to grow in up to 10 places in your central nervous system. In my case, I have them in my brain, spine, pancreas, and kidneys. My first set of tumors appeared on my brain stem in 2012 and the second pair on my cerebellum in 2017, which I had both surgically removed. Since 2017, things have been stable for the most part until my last MRI, which showed bilateral renal masses. The biggest tumor being 6cm on my left kidney. After my doctor reviewed the scan, he found that the tumor was Renal Cell Carcinoma which means it is cancerous. I will be having an open flank partial nephrectomy on January 14th to remove the cancerous tumor and as many others as possible. Not only did my kidneys show masses but my pancreas was “so covered with tumors, it didn’t even look like a pancreas on my scans” as my doctors said. Because of everything going on and still having to get my other routine MRI’s, I have 10 appointments set right now at Emory Winship Cancer Center between now and mid January. My family is helping with costs as much as possible, but between gas, having to stay in hotels for my back to back appointments and miscellaneous costs, it’s just not something we can afford right now. Asking for financial help and putting my business out for the public is the LAST thing I wanted to do, but I’m not sure what else to do. Any donation and I truly mean ANYTHING helps. I know times are tough for a lot of people right now and it’s the holidays so I truly hate to ask. Anything is greatly, greatly appreciated.
