Victoria (Fisk) Nieves of Lahaina HI, former Hastings/Grand Island Nebraska resident, has recently been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Vicki and her family were mere weeks into a new normal routine after surviving the devastating fires that ripped through Maui. She was flown to Kaiser Hospital in Honolulu last weekend and has already undergone extensive tests to confirm Leukemia and seemingly endless transfusions of platelets. She started chemo yesterday and is awaiting bone marrow matching with her sister back in Nebraska. Her husband, 12 year old daughter, and 15 year old son are facing frequent trips back and forth from Maui to Oahu while trying to navigate an already delayed start to the school year.
After her workplace burned down in the fires, her employer offered to continue covering benefits through 2023. In January, she is going to be faced with losing her medical insurance in the midst of fighting for her life. Funding from this project will go to support Vicki and her family in paying these mounting medical and travel expenses. Even the slightest financial support will help as there is still a long journey ahead.
