If it helps one family, one child, it's worth it... Last night my 19 year old son Gavin took his own life. I won't go into details as it's way too difficult. The reason that I decided to post this is to try to prevent this from happening to anyone else. His death cannot be for nothing. If you have a child that is struggling with depression, get them help... If that's not working, get them more help. Smother them with your love. If you have kids that aren't even struggling with depression, please let them know right now that you love them... Call them, hug them, tell them. My son Gavin was an amazing young man. Smart, funny, polite, just an all around good person. The kind of son that every father and mother would be proud to have raised. We tried everything we could to help him overcome his struggle, but the depression was too much for him. I will forever wonder if there was something more I could have done... Anything I could have said to have my baby boy still here with me. My heart is shattered. I know Gavin is with God and his Grammy now, waiting patiently for the rest of his family to join him. This is not something a parent should ever go through, so please hug your kids, check on them every single day.
