Hi, my name is Adriana Fitz. I am raising funds for my very dear friend, Abi. She is a beautiful, self-less, hard-working, intelligent, faith-filled woman who is battling some major medical issues.

Abi has cystic fibrosis and many other complex and serious chronic illnesses that affect her life. She recently had major emergency abdominal surgery due to a rare complication of her small intestine twisting and flipping, and the surgery resulted in extreme loss of core strength as it was a large open surgery with an incision down the middle of her abdomen It will take 6-8 months to recover and regain strength, though she will never fully regain the strength back she once had. The surgery and recovery has caused increased weakness and major setbacks in her health. She was already using mobility aids before surgery due to a neurological disorder called dysautonomia, myopathy, and a connective tissue disorder all resulting in loss of mobility and sensation in her legs, but now she no longer has ability to use her crutches or walker for mobility, and will be dependent on her custom wheelchair that she is due to receive soon. She has been working hard in rehab for 3 weeks now, but will still have to use her wheelchair daily for the foreseeable future. Per the rehab doctors and team, this decline in mobility and health has resulted in the necessity for accessibility accommodations in her family‘s home such as a stair lift to go up and down to the inside stairs to get to her apartment area, ramps to get in and out of the home, and safety grab bars in her living space. All of these modifications and equipment pieces will cost several thousand dollars, and insurance does not cover any of these. They are all medical necessary items that doctors have said are vital for Abi to move safely around her home, allow her to go to work, appointments, and outings, and allow for less stress in the family life, but the cost for all the equipment and installation is entirely out-of-pocket expenses for Abi and her family.

Additionally, she is in vital need of now using oxygen overnight due to progression of her cystic fibrosis. It is exceedingly frustrating that insurance has ridiculously strict requirements for coverage of home oxygen, one of them being that she maintain a certain low level of oxygen for the length of five minutes total, and she was unfortunately 14 seconds shy of this 5 minute mark, even though her oxygen consistently dropped into the 70s and 80s throughout the night during many overnight oxygen studies. Her insurance still refuses to cover an oxygen concentrator for overnight use at home despite her pulmonology team pressing the need for it, thus she will need to pay out-of-pocket for an oxygen concentrator. Her pulmonologist has recommended she use the Inogen One G5 oxygen system, which is just above $4,000.
