Hello everyone! My name is Courtney Samuels. I am currently a Junior, Biology major at the illustrious Winston-Salem State University. Throughout my collegiate experience, I have been afforded numerous opportunities to enhance my matriculation and growth. I have been presented with yet another opportunity for the summer of 2019: a chance to study abroad in Cuba. This trip will take place during the first two weeks of June. During this time, I will be able to travel from Santiago de Cuba to Havana, visit sites, attend seminars, try Cuban cuisine, and take part in interactive discussions with activists, cultural workers, and other scholars.
Studying abroad has been a goal of mine for quite some time now. With only a year and half left of my college experience, I feel more excited than ever to go! Through this opportunity, I hope to learn more about Cuban language and culture. Since high school, I have had the desire to learn Spanish. Traveling to Cuba will help me get closer to this goal, while also allowing me to engage in personal development, new friendships, and new interests. My ultimate hope is that I will be become more open-minded and gain a better appreciation for different places and cultures in the world.
The payments for this trip include a $250 deposit and three $500 deposits. These payments include my passport, flight, living arrangements, and in-country travel. The remaining $250 will cover other costs such as food, souvenirs, and leisurely activities. I would greatly appreciate any donation towards this study abroad trip! Please remember that no amount is too small. I am thankful for your interest in my goals and growth at WSSU. I ask for warm wishes and safe prayers throughout this journey. I cannot wait to share about this experience upon my return!
