YWAM ships Kona

DIFFERENT WAYS TO DONATE TOWARDS THE END

For the last two years I have been incredibly blessed to have been an intern at Atascadero Bible Church! It has been a wonderful opportunity to grow with God and be involved with the local church. Along with the greatest blessing, I live with the coolest roommates Chrissy and Kelsey. Within the last two years I have done more than I ever could have imagined, from working with infants all the way to 18 year olds that has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. I have gotten the opportunity to go to Ecuador with my senior class, Canada with one of my best friends Grace.

To say the least, I have found the longing to go and take the next step in my journey in pursuing ministry in all ways God is deciding to show me, whether that is within Church walls or, in another state, country,  or just here in San Luis Obispo county. I have been praying for opportunities to present, as my time as an intern is coming to a close. For the last year I have put off applying for YWAM because of finances and just ignoring the calling that was put on my heart. However it was clear that diving into the world of missions missions and discovering myself no matter what or where it may be is my calling so my first step is this September, I will be flying to Kona Hawaii to do a 3  month Discipleship Training School along with 3 months doing outreach missions among The Nations.

The Discipleship Training School (YWAM DTS) seeks to bring you into a more intimate relationship with God. It also gives you an opportunity to discover your passions and your part in God’s purposes for the world. It is for those who long to follow Jesus in new ways with a different perspective.

The course is a full-time program and lasts five or six months. It consists of two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. In the lecture phase, you will learn more about God and His world. You’ll learn not only from lectures but also from community living and practical training. The outreach phase focuses on applying what you learned in the classroom through an intense, cross-cultural experience. So often we are caught in our day to day and can not find the time to focus on ourselves or our relationship with Christ, and how we will apply that in our lives and others.

I have always had a hard time discerning what God wanted or was saying and really I have had one big moment of hearing God and that was when I gave my life to Christ, and the second time is when I had considered my "last resort" that was only my last resort because of fiances but something I have always wanted to pursue, YWAM. The way it all happened was quite funny, I was angry at God, I had convinced my self i was forsaken, and at the end of my ropes I got a little bit of courage to just to inquire a little information about YWAM. To me it was only going to be an auto generated email that surely would NOT convince me, however I was wrong again (surprise, thanks God) I got a phone call while working out one day and the location said Hawaii and I was like oh no god if you think i'm answering this you are so wrong, but every ring I had opposing thoughts, weighing pros and cons of this conversation..my biggest con which is actually a pro that this man that is calling is actually going to convince me to go to HAWAII which is really far away and farther than I want to be from my parents than I already am, but somehow I answer the call and what I thought would be 10 minutes turned into an hour phone call of intentional conversation, the man named John had answered every question and fear I had without me even voicing them. SO we get off the phone and I am sitting there thinking really God? This is what you want me to do...you know being a doctor could have been cool...getting a job at a church is ideal...but no across the Ocean to Hawaii is where you are calling me and I am immediately overcome with peace but also guilt that I am upset that God has put something so wonderful and so fitting to my desires because of fear, and in that moment and I am reminded of Psalm 119:05 "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" he was lighting up this path for sure, so I applied and I was accepted.

I understand we are in the middle of a Global Pandemic and as far as YWAM has said they are still planning on my fall semester there as long as we quarantine the first two weeks. Along with a pandemic comes financial hardships, I am doing everything in my power to save money for this and for the minor details of leaving for 6 months. With or with out a pandemic these things still remain expensive so if you are financially able and comfortable with giving, it would mean the world within the GoFundMe I have linked 5 different options of payment methods if you choose to give, however do not feel that you have to if you are not in a position to. Another way you can give is through prayer, I ultimately would love that because like I mentioned before there is fear and worry doing something so big and different and prayer God would use me and move in me.
