Courtney’s Colitis Recovery Campaign

Hi guys. I'm Courtney's best friend and sister in Christ of 20 years. Her family means a great deal to me. Many have asked The Shaw Family how they can help: at this time medical expenses is their biggest hurdle, both current and future.
I want to share some of her story with you. Courtney is a wife, momma and teacher. Courtney was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis eight years ago at age 19. The disease went in and out of remission throughout the years until this past April. Courtney experienced a lot of pain that landed her in the hospital with emergency colon removal of a fried and 100% diseased colon. Courtney spent 12 days in the hospital before going home to her family.
Courtney began recovering and learning what life without her colon would be like at home. After 10 days at home she returned to the hospital with severe pain that resulted in bowel obstruction surgery and a 14 day hospital stay. Courtney experienced many complications during this stay. She left the hospital at 94 pounds and very weak. After a long fight and many answered prayers, she was finally reunited with her husband and son once again.
Courtney has recovered beautifully. She has gained weight and regained her strength. She is relieved to have both emergency surgeries behind her. She is getting back to the swing of life and returning back to teaching her kindergarten class this fall.
She has come a long way, but has a long road in front of her. Medical bills have started to roll in. Courtney will have two more surgeries she is preparing for. Colon removal is a 3 surgey process. She will be required to take unpaid time off of work to recover from her surgeries. As her family emotionally and mentally prepares for the next two surgeries, they have the weight of medical expenses on their shoulders.
This is where you can be a blessing. If you have wondered how to bless the Shaw's, this is one area that can bless them and lift some of the financial burden. No amount is too small. Whether you are able or unable to bless them financially, they request to be lifted in prayer first and foremost.
They are thankful to those who have blessed them along the way. It has been beautiful watching their family and community rally around them with love and support. Thank you for your continued prayers and walking this unexpected journey with them!
