This summer, I am being given the opportunity to study abroad in Cortona, Italy. The University of Georgia has a faculty lead program that allows for students to study the cultivation of grapes and the production of wine in the heart of historic wine country. I will be living in a renovated convent along with fellow UGA students and faculty on top of one of the many hills in the area. Cortona possesses an authentic Italy nestled in the heart of a rolling landscape and grapevines.
While there, I will acquire skills, knowledge and a pallet that I will use in my future as a pathologist and a hopeful vineyard owner. The wine industry hosts a lot of obstacles that pertain to my interest in pathology from fungus to insects that transfer other pathogens. There is a lot to be done in order to help vineyards while also ensuring the renowned grape varieties. I am beyond excited to study abroad and am thankful for everyone's support!
