Courtney's Battle

As many of you know our loving and kind nurse colleague Courtney was diagnosed with breast cancer in September. Not to long after her diagnosis she got a double mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction. She is now in the process of receiving chemotherapy and continues to come into work despite feeling sick due to side effects.
Prior to transitioning to our unit from a PRN (as needed) to a full time nurse she worked full time as the director of the BOOST mental health program at Region 10. Unfortunately, because Courtney has not worked at UVA full-time for at least a year, she lacks accrued Paid-Time Off and is not eligible for FMLA. Sadly, even if we all wanted to give her some of our PTO we CAN'T :( The UVA HR policy (DHRM 4.35) states that employees with less than one year of employment cannot receive donated PTO unless they are receiving FMLA, which is not accessible to Courtney for the same reason. Please consider donating to support Courtney with the costs of chemotherapy. Let's join forces to help our team member out. P.S. if you are a UVA employee with health insurance you can consider donating some of the money you get from the HoosWell Program. I learned today that you get $125 in Visa gift cards for just filling out a health assessment and indicating when you got your flu shot. And up to $500.00 total for doing all the other things listed on the site. If you need help with doing this I can help you! Just ask me when you see me on the unit.
