Courtney Thompson and Girls Emergency Help Fund

Donation protected

Courtney Thompson (28) was walking in a crosswalk on Poyntz Ave. in Manhattan Kansas on the morning of July 7th, when she was struck by a car. Riley County EMS paramedics stabilized and transported her to Via Christi in Manhattan. She was soon life flighted to Via Christi Trauma Center in Topeka....she was conscious the entire time. Extensive tests and scans were conducted at both facilities and they found that Courtney was very beat up. Her injuries include: 4 pelvic fractures that have been repaired in the first surgery. 3 spinal fractures that they feel are stable for now and hope that they won't require surgery. Fractures to both legs...The left leg they feel will heal in place and the right leg will receive surgery on July 14th. Courtney has head contusions from hitting the windshield but remarkably has no other head or neck trauma. She has multiple organ contusions as well. At the current time she has been fitted for a back brace to stabilize her spinal fractures and her organs are now starting to work again. Remarkably, she has no paralysis or neurological issues. With all of this trauma the prognosis is still positive for the family. They understand that their life has now changed ...but the great news is that Courtney is alive! The road that Courtney and her family are now on is a very long and difficult one. Its one of constant pain, hard work and uncertainty. At this time Courtney is expected to be in the hospital for about 2 weeks, to be followed up with about 3 weeks at a rehab facility that specializes in spinal and orthopedic injuries. She will be in a wheelchair for a minimum of 6 weeks and the back brace for 3 months.

Courtney is a single mom of 2 amazing girls, ages 8 and 10. She is a paraprofessional at Eisenhower Middle School, where she works with special needs kids, and is the assistant Debate Coach for Manhattan High. She does Instacart personal shopping for people and has recently turned her passion of axe throwing into a job as a coach at Manhatchet. Courtney is a K-State Alumni and just finished her Masters degree in English in 2020. She taught classes at K-State as a Grad. asst. and was on her way to completing her teaching certificate. Her ultimate goal is to be a professor at her beloved Alma Mater. That's right...while working multiple jobs...while investing in other youth...while raising 2 young daughters, Courtney earned a Masters Degree!

If you know Courtney you have an idea of how this will go....everything will hurt...then she will push harder...it will hurt more and she will push again! We all know the drive that Courtney possesses but we need to help...Though she didn't ask! This is our chance Manhattan...K-State...USD 383...Friends....Family! Courtney will not be able to work...shoot currently she can't even walk! The bills will quickly pile up for rent, food, school clothes for the girls, medical bills, adaptations to her home...and on and on and on. She never asked for help...she never will....she's just that kind of person. But this is a chance to take care of one of our own... for the girl that gives so selflessly to all of us!

We have set the initial goal for $10,000 though the bills will be many times this. I have a feeling we can blow that goal away! Lets do this! All funds will go directly to Courtney's account so that they will be immediately accessible.

This page has been set to be able to share the link and have others join in to host this fund raiser. Please do that....share this within your circles and encourage them to do the same.

*With all of this the family is adamant about sharing the message to watch for pedestrians! We live in community that is active and we all have to be vigilant about watching out for each other!

Thanks and much love to you all!
