Hello friends and family,
Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider donating. As you all know, I came out as transgender two years ago and have been socially and medically transitioning since then. I started hormone replacement therapy in May 2019, had a hysterectomy in November 2019, legally changed my name in September 2020, and have Top Surgery scheduled on December 11, 2020. Every step of this journey has brought me great happiness and peace that I have never known before. I am eternally grateful to be where I am today and to have the loving support of all of you. It is hard to ask for more than I've already been blessed with, but the cost of transitioning is overwhelming. And so here we are - I'm hoping to raise money to help cover my transition costs. I'm very fortunate to have found a surgeon for Top Surgery who is covered by my insurance, but even then my out of pocket costs are $6,000. Any donation amount is tremendously appreciated and if you are not able to donate please consider sharing.
Any amount that I raise in excess of covering my own costs will be donated back to the community, specifically to the following organizations:
Trans Lifeline (https://translifeline.org): Trans Lifeline is a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis - for the trans community, by the trans community.
The Marsha P. Johnson Institute (https://marshap.org): The Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI) protects and defends the human rights of BLACK transgender people. We do this by organizing, advocating, creating an intentional community to heal, developing transformative leadership, and promoting our collective power. The Marsha P. Johnson Institute is a fiscally sponsored project of Social Good Fund, a California nonprofit corporation and registered 501(c)(3) organization.
Point of Pride (https://pointofpride.org): Point of Pride is an entirely volunteer-operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Point of Pride works to support trans youth and adults who otherwise lack access through gender-affirming programs that empower them to live more authentically.
The Black Trans Travel Fund (https://www.blacktranstravelfund.com): The Black Trans Travel Fund is a grassroots, mutual aid based organization developed for the purpose of providing Black transgender women with the financial resources necessary for them to be able to self-determine and access their safest travel options.
If you have the means, please consider supporting and donating to these organizations yourself.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Courey Smyth Ayres
