Courageous Curiosity

So... what's this all about?
Hi! My name is Dani Worth, M.A. and I am a Somatic Psychotherapist Intern, specializing in eating disorders, addiction, and trauma. I am passionate about bringing awareness to, and continual discovery of, the intersection between the emotional-state and the emotional-body.

I'm embarking on a 3-month solo trek along the world famous Appalachian Trail... walking across 6 states and over aproximately 1,100 miles. The physical, mental and emotional challenges will help me to research and write on the healing powers of the wilderness and the process of reconnecting with the intuitive body to aid in trauma, eating disorder, and addiction recovery.

I'll be using this time and experience to write curricula for eating disorder and addiction support groups, which I will implement and facilitate, once out of the wild. These groups will be an integration of wilderness therapy, somatics, and current theories of psychotherapy.

The impact of this work will be great... extending towards so many suffering with these disorders, seeking a life beyond the grips of addiction and trauma.

...but really, who am I and what have I done?
Being in addiction recovery for the past 10 years, as well as experiencing chronic health issues throughout my life, I've tracked the somatization (physical expression) of unprocessed trauma in my own system. What I've learned is that I could not merely 'think' and 'talk' my way into healing... but I needed to 're-inhabit' the body which had been dissociated from, numbed, cut-off, and shut down.

With this history in my pocket, and a Masters in Somatic Psychotherapy, I found myself working within the eating disorder/addiction community, with victims of sexual assualt, those coping with grief, folks experiencing psychosomatic symptomolology, women in various stages of breast cancer treatment and remission, and veterans with PTSD... working towards cognitive, emotional and physical reconnection and integration.

How YOU Can Help!  &  What you GET!

I'm a woman who thinks she can do it all on her own... and the truth is- I CAN'T! I need your help to make this happen, and I truly, truly, cannot do this without you...

The funding I recieve will help me attain:
-Light-weight hiking/camping gear needed to trek literally 1,100-1,200 miles (tent, sleeping bag, trekking poles, bear can, quick drying underwear, rope, GPS, solar charger, hiking boots, rain gear... etc)
-Dehydrated goods/food for the next 3 months
-a stay in a hostel twice a month/washing of clothes
-initial transportation to Georgia and then back to San Francisco

You're coming with me! Well... sort of.
I'll be uploading writings and creating yoga videos from the wild, and YOU will help me to form these pieces. I'll base some of my writings and yoga sessions on YOUR suggested topics/themes!
