“Courage, Dear Heart:” Save Aslan from FIP
Donation protected
Aslan is our beautiful calico cat who we adopted from the shelter back in early March. She was only 8 months when we adopted her, still a kitten, still a baby. Initially, she seemed to thrive, and we were thrilled. She was possibly the most lovey cat in existence, kneading biscuits into our laps at every available opportunity. Most nights, we’d wake up to her perched on our sides or chest, snuggling into us even as we slept. She loved trying new foods and chasing after catnip toys, and we discovered her particular affinity for hunting houseflies (always a plus in an NYC apartment!). Her happy-go-lucky attitude made her a favorite playmate with the cats and kittens we foster through the Brooklyn Cat Cafe.
After a period of rapid weight loss, appetite changes, and lethargy, though, we took Aslan to the vet, and Aslan was tragically diagnosed with FIP. For those who may be unaware, FIP is caused by the interaction of a cat’s immune system and a strain of the feline coronavirus. It’s rare, but historically, when it occurs, it is almost always fatal. Modern medicine has created a miracle cure for FIP cats, but it’s an expensive and lengthy treatment. Aslan will be undergoing injections of this treatment for 84 days to give her body the strength and support it needs to fight FIP back. This treatment is capable of saving her life, and we’re willing to do whatever it takes to get her there, but we need your help.
100% of donations will go to Aslan’s FIP treatment, covering the cost of the injections, syringes/needles, and blood work as we go through this process. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
