County to County Trip

Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Sabrina Kelly from St Michaels GAA in County Sligo. I am Mum to Shane Kelly, the most passionate Gael you will ever find.

Shane is turning 18 this year and to mark the occasion we are visiting every County GAA ground and one other bonus ground over the course of 6 days. Starting in Antrim and finishing at Croke Park.

Whilst doing this trip we are going to fundraise for Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Dublin. Shane was born a very sick boy in Sligo in November 2004 and then transferred to Temple Street for lengthy medical tests and procedures. Shane spent a lot of time on the road up and down to Temple Street over the years. Despite being told I would never be able to care for Shane at home he is now the most amazing boy. He is obsessed with pretty much all sports going, but nothing comes close to his love of Gaelic Football and Hurling. Shane does not speak but uses Lámh (Sign Language) and sounds to communicate. Despite being unable to speak he is more than capable of shouting louder than anyone else on the side-line.

Over the years we have been to many pitches the length and breadth of the country and New York supporting his beloved club, St Michaels, county Sligo and plenty of other counties also. Shane was at his first All-Ireland Final a few years ago and thankfully we’ve been at many more sense, both football and hurling.

This trip started out as something we would both just do as Mother and Son but if I can raise any few euro at all I would be delighted to donate to such a worthy cause.

We plan to do our trip starting Sunday August 14th in Antrim and finish in Croke Park on Friday 19th August. It will be a busy week but something Shane is looking forward to dearly.
