Friends –
This is a very hard favor to ask, but we need help. We are about to be homeless.
We came home last night, June 6, to a “Notice to Vacate.” We have three days before we will be evicted.
Not only that, our car is currently in the shop for the second time in a week.
And less than an hour ago, Jamie received a call from TWC saying that his unemployment has been denied because someone at SFA told them that he did not show up for the last two weeks of class and didn’t give final exams – which is absolutely false!
We don’t know what to do.
As many of you know, Roz lost her job in October of last year. We used the little savings we had to make it through the rest of 2018, and at the beginning of this year, she started her own business, Rozjam Entertainment. She’s also been taking odd jobs when she can, but the few hundred she’s been making each month hasn’t been enough to keep up. She can’t get a regular job until she pays a traffic ticket and gets her license valid again. She hates feeling useless, so when she hasn’t been working, she’s been volunteering at various organizations around town.
We’ve always tried to do things right. We’ve paid off our student loans, we have no car note, less than $300 in credit card debt, we save for retirement. We’ve always tried to live within our means. Unfortunately, we have very little means at the moment!
We’ve paid some rent and electricity every month, but have fallen behind. Our landlord has been, until this point phenomenally patient, but she needs her money – and we understand that.
Jamie, as adjunct faculty, rarely gets scheduled classes in the summer. We could have made significant headway in a few weeks when his unemployment benefits start, but now he has to contest the false information TWC has been given, and all this has happened sooner rather than later.
Because we haven’t lived extravagantly, we have nothing of value to sell. Jamie’s retirement account is an ORP – which will be good for us in the long run, but it’s the kind of account we can’t draw from early nor use to take out a loan. We don’t know what to do except ask for help.
So here’s where we are:
* We owe our landlady past due rent and electricity in the amount of $1251.84.
* We owe $530 to pay my ticket and fees to get my license valid.
* We don’t yet know what’s wrong with our car, but if it’s the alternator (as the mechanic predicts), that bill will be around $500.
We are asking for $2300.
For some people in this world, that’s a pittance, but for us, it’s currently an insurmountable sum.
With this money, we can get our car in working order and clear Roz’s license. We can try to stave off the eviction and/or move to a cheaper place in town.
It isn’t easy to ask for help in this way, especially when we know there are people whose hardships and struggles are even greater than ours.
It would probably surprise many of you to know that Roz has suffered from Major Depression for years. Some call it “smiling depression” because people like Roz can laugh and be positive despite the darkness inside. These setbacks have increased her struggle for the past few months, and finding that notice last night is a hairsbreadth from sending her into a tailspin.
But we’re humbly asking you to help.
We have very little to offer in the way of thanks, but those who contribute will receive a Keepsake Telegram from Rozjam Entertainment. Those of you who contribute $100 or more will receive credit for a Singing Telegram from Rozjam Entertainment to be used for any special occasion you wish.
Money received will be used to help with the situations listed above, for the James and Rosalyn Couch, in Nacogdoches, Texas.
If you can contribute money, we're grateful. Even if you merely keep us in your thoughts, we're grateful.
Thank you so very much for your support at this time.
With Love,
Rosalyn "Roz" Rommel Couch
