Dear everyone,

My name is Samia Hussein, I am medical doctor living in the Netherlands. I have recently graduated medical school; the last part of my education I spent in Tanzania, doing research at a rural hospital. In my time working there, I have met and treated a very special patiënt called Ester. Ester is a 25 year old lady, living in that area. Ester had a rare skin condition, which we could not really understand. Because of her condition, she would suddenly develop wounds on her legs. These wounds would not heal easily.

While I was treating her, her wound on her left leg got bigger and we could not save it. That is why we were forced to amputate her lower leg. After this episode I developed a special bond with Ester. After a rehabilitation period at the hospital, Ester went home, and I went to visit her there.

She told me she lost her 2 baby's in that same year, due to severe diseases and malnutrition. Her husband was forced to stop working to take care of her, so they were living under poor conditions.

Now that she is better, Ester wants to restart life and start working to help her husband. Unfortunately her mobility is restricted with one leg. At the hospital I was working at, my colleague prosthetist orthotist is willing to make her a prosthetic leg, the only problem is the financial aspect. That is why I started this collection to make this happen. I hope together we will be able to help this young lady to get her mobility back, to be able to live her life the way she wishes.
