Hello all. We are Emilia Brintnall and Rose Luardo . We are muse companions. We are multi-media artists living and working in Philly. We hope that you enjoy our campaign and will consider donating to it.
This year we applied to the Odysseys Artist Residency in Costa Rica and we just found out we were accepted. Our proposal is to explore our inter-generational friendship through performance installation and the collected memories/stories of the elder community in San Ramon, Costa Rica.
Our work will pair these stories with performances involving children from the community. There is a children's program in the city that will be working with us. The residency director has made connections with the local community for us and secured us with a space for our final exhibit. The work we will be creating will also be developed so it could be remounted in Philadelphia upon our return.
Now all we need to to is get there!
Our work as artist humans has delivered us to a place where we see the importance of friendship and community between persons of differing generations. We believe that open engagement between inter-generational groups is valuable and sheds unique perspectives on our collective human experience.
The project is an investigation through the journey of aging, youth, female beauty myth and memory. This is important project to us as a creative duo but also important because we believe that art should be accessible to different communities.
Both of us have worked as artist-teachers to diverse populations including adults with cognitive and physical disabilities and children. This is an important component of our work, we are excited to connect with new communities in Costa Rica.
If you support us with your hard earned cash, you will be contributing to the growth of the artistic consciousness of the world. Who would you be if you kept the world from our art? Not a great person. Ok, look, you will be helping us achieve our artistic goals -- as artists our work is to ferret out life's rich pageant and process it for the rest of the world to ponder/enjoy/be confused by/scream at/and otherwise gain access to a part of themselves.
Help us, help you, to help us. You're ready to make a contribution, right?
Here's how we are going to spend the money: two round-trip flights to San Ramon, ground transportation, bike rental for one month, art supplies, any food outside of the meals the residency offers and contribution to our host family. Clean water is not easily accessed in this community and we'll have to purchase it.
If we don't reach out goal, we'll be using the funds to buy 500 boxes of tissues to dry our tears. Dear lord -- please don't let us not make the goal!
We have a success rate as thick and juicy as a porterhouse portobello. We launched a successful face painting business that we grew into a theater workshop for children. We were finalists in the Philly Steak grant. We are both members of the Comedy Dreamz team (touring comedy and stand-up show). We are also a part of the Space 1026 artist community; a collective gallery and studio where we have produced shows and happenings. We have tremendous follow through with all our art projects and we work fabulously together.
Our challen-tunity (which is a combination of a challenge and an opportunity) is this: Rose is working with her high school Spanish, but she is world class at charade-ing her thoughts and feelings. Neither of us have been to Costa Rica and this will be a new environment for us to create in. This project will have us communicating in ways that are outside of our verbal and physical comfort zone.
And that, my dear, is our project. Please give if you can. Please give if you can't. Please get the word out and use the share tool to tell your rich friends about us.
