Cory was diagnosed with a brain tumor in late 2019 and has since undergone three craniotomies, the most recent in July 2025. After a frightening, unexpected weekend in the ICU and several challenging weeks of medication adjustments, it became clear that more aggressive treatments were necessary as his brain cancer was progressing. Surgery pathology revealed the tumor was a higher grade than anticipated, prompting the start of higher dosage radiation and chemotherapy treatments in late July.

Cory and his wife Ashley have a seven-month-old daughter, and they have faced increased expenses due to medical and travel expenses. This situation has been made more challenging by Cory being out of work for the past few months because of health restrictions and recovery. Although Cory hopes to return to work soon, his treatments will continue, with radiation concluding in a few weeks and six months of chemotherapy to follow.
