Cory Vice (35) new father, killed in car accident

Friends, family, and greater community, I reach out today in a desperate plea as we navigate this time of unimaginable grief!

My best friend’s daughter, Kelsey Kowalski-Vice met her husband Cory 10 years ago at the Blackhawks parade and their love story began. When most people wouldn’t have the courage to deal with someone who had severe juvenal diabetes, Cory stood by her side through thick and thin. Six years ago, Kelsey underwent a lifesaving double transplant of her pancreas and kidney. This procedure eliminated diabetes; however, Kelsey will always struggle with the long-term damage pre-surgery such as gastroparesis, diabetic retinopathy, and orthostatic hypotension. They married 3 years ago in April and in December of last year they were thrilled to find out Kelsey was pregnant with their first child. Due to Kelsey’s medical condition, the pregnancy was deemed to be very high risk. Kelsey was hospitalized several times and 6 weeks before her due date, she had to undergo an emergency C-section because she was at risk of losing her life. This miracle child, Channing William Vice was born 3lbs/14oz on July 8th and spent the first 20 days of his life in the NICU. When both mom and baby were released from the hospital in good health, they were ecstatic and ready to conquer the world as a new family.

On a fateful Tuesday, September 26, 2023, this beautiful young family was struck by a heart-wrenching tragedy that has forever changed Kelsey and Channing’s lives. Corey, who was on his way home from work, was in a devastating accident on I88. He had to be extracted from his firey truck and rushed to the hospital. He fought valiantly for 18 hours but finally succumbed to his massive injuries at 9:36 on September 27, 2023.

Cory and Kelsey lived a humble life with Cory being the sole provider. Kelsey’s medical conditions, only some of which are mentioned above, coupled with having a preemie newborn baby prevents her from being able to work a fulltime job.

At this time of unimaginable grief that last thing Kelsey needs to do is worry about how she is going to support herself and their child. Your financial support is greatly needed and appreciated.

Thank you and God Bless all who support this cause!
