Cory’s Leg Amputation Surgery

Update 05/07/19
On October 30, 2018, Cory was in a bad motorcycle accident which severely damaged his left leg. Since the accident, he has undergone several surgeries, skin graphs & months of recovery all with the hope of walking again. After the results of his recent of blood test and X-rays, Cory and his doctors have decided that Amputation is best solution for him. The leg is just not recovering from the injury and there are guarantees even with many more surgeries that it will. There is also now infection in leg which complicates the attempts to save and repair it.
This was not an easy decision nor was this the outcome we were praying and hoping for, but appears to be the only choice considering the circumstances. The surgery to amputation Cory's lower leg and foot will be scheduled very soon. This amputation will require months of healing and life time challenges. We appreciate any information shared that will help him through this time from anyone who has been through an amputation.
It’s a sad and frustrating thing that in this extraordinarily challenging time Cory must also contend with the financial reality of these treatments, recovery and adaptation to life after an amputation. We are asking that you donate what you can to help us raise $50,000 to cover the following costs:
Medical bills:
• Any medical expenses not covered by Medi-Cal
• Physical therapy equipment
Mobility Assistance: Medi-Cal only covers 80% of approved devices and costs range from $5,000 to $50,000 and these need to be repaired every 2-5 years
• Prosthetic legs (Different activities require different types)
• Wheelchair
• Travel to and from
• surgery
• follow up appointments
• prosthesis fittings
• physical therapy
Loss of income: basic needs will still need to be paid for during Cory’s recovery. California Disability does not cover income loss for this type of amputation.
• Groceries
• Rent
• Bills
Alterations to their existing space to make it more accessible for Cory’s post-op or moving expenses to a more accessible home.
• Chair lift
• Handrails
Modified Recreational Equipment: Cory has always been an active guy and we intend to get him back to all of his normal activities as soon as possible but that will require specialty equipment. Any funds raised beyond what is needed to get Cory through this treatment process will go towards supplying him with any adaptive gear he might need to get back to biking, surfing, hiking and all the other things he loves to do.
To All who can Help,
Cory is a Single Father with 4 kids who got into a bad motorcycle accident last night, which resulted in him being air lifted to the nearest trauma center.
Cory’s injuries are very serious and are going to require multiple surgeries, physical therapy and rehab. Cory is facing very painful and extensive medical procedures, to avoid amputation of his leg. As you know Medical costs add up very quickly, Cory is most definitely going to require an in-home nurse assistant, medical equipment, prescriptions & supplies. As well as transportation to and from hospitals, clinics & physical therapy.
We are very thankful to God that Cory has survived and that his doctors were able to rush him into surgery, making their first attempts to save his leg and to prevent infection. Cory has several surgeries to come in the future along with physical therapy, all with unknown possible complications. Cory’s other injuries include cracked ribs on both sides and injuries to his back, shoulder and neck.
The extent of Cory's injuries are unknown at this point, but with Prayer, Faith and Hope we know God will make a way for his recovery! Yet it will be a long and hard road.
Cory has been a self-employed restaurant owner for the past 3 years and just recently started a new career as a General Manager at a local restaurant in Oceanside. Cory is very hard working and it is killing him that he will not be able to work and earn money for quite some time. He has always provided for his family and would never want to have to ask for help, but the reality is, there will just not be enough money to support himself and his children without working. In his line of work you need to be on your feet a lot and with the bone in leg being completely shattered, it will require months of rehab before he will be back on his feet and working again. Cory is a very dedicated single Father of 4 beautiful children and not working will make it very difficult to provide for them. Cory will most definitely need financial help with the day to day costs for his family that may not be covered by disability (if he even receives any?) Cory will also have medical debts that are not covered by insurance. Cory’s recovery could take 6-12 months or more, with no guarantee of a full recovery. For this reason we are reaching out to anyone who is able to help with a donation of any amount. Every little bit helps, your gift will truly help Cory and his family during this very hard time.
We really appreciate anything that you can give and ask that you please continue to keep Cory and his family in your prayers.
Thank you & God Bless you all
