Cory Hardin’s Motorcycle Wreck Recovery Fund

My brother, Mark “Cory” Hardin, was in a serious motorcycle wreck in Charlotte, NC on September 3rd, 2023. This GoFundMe is to raise funds to help minimize any financial burdens during his long recovery.

On that afternoon, Cory was riding his motorcycle home when a van, making a left turn, pulled out in front of him. The driver did not see him. With nowhere to go, Cory slammed into the side of the van.

At the hospital, doctors treated Cory for a punctured lung, 7 broken ribs, a broken pelvis, a ruptured MCL in his knee, and a laceration on his arm requiring 42 stitches. After failed attempts to insert a catheter, the doctors discovered that Cory’s urethra had been severed during the collision. At that point, he had to undergo surgery to insert a suprapubic catheter through his abdomen wall into his bladder. During the surgery, doctors also discovered that one of his testicles was badly damaged and they made the decision to remove it. He was in the hospital for four days.

Cory is currently at home recovering. He was starting to walk around without his crutches before a recent setback has placed him back in a knee brace and dependent on crutches for support. Most of his injuries just need enough time to heal. On December 11th, he is scheduled for surgery to attempt to reattach his urethra. If that goes well, Cory will have one more procedure to remove the suprapubic catheter from his abdomen. He should be able to return to work sometime around mid-January to the beginning of February, 2024.

Since his wreck, Cory has used up all his savings. He is receiving temporary disability but it is a small percentage of what he actually needs to carry him through his recovery. The funds we are seeking will help cover his current living expenses (rent, utilities, insurance, etc.) and medical bills. The other driver is under-insured for an amount that will fall dramatically short of the bills he is accruing and may take months to years to receive. Additionally, though he is working for a great company that is holding his position open until he is able to return to work, he is paid based on commission. Upon returning, he will need to start fresh in building up his sales. Our goal is to raise enough money to cover his bills through the end February, allowing him time to recover and re-enter the workforce with a sense of security.
