On February 7th, 2015 36 year old Cortney Small’s whole life changed.
Loving wife of Bobby Small and dedicated mother of two twin sons age 12 and a 9-year-old daughter, Cortney went to bed with a migraine headache. She awoke almost 1 month later in the ICU unit of the hospital to find out she had battled streptococcal pneumonia. She had won the fight for her life, but has a terrifying journey ahead of her.
She has already lost the use of her legs, which as of this writing, have been partially amputated, and her hands are black from lack of circulation.
Cortney's body was fighting the infection so hard and the same medications that helped her survive caused her organs to go into overdrive and protect them from this insidious and horrifying infection. Complicating the situation even more is her battle with diabetes, which further inhibits circulatory issues.
A generous woman, who loved riding her motorcycle, is now looking at a harsh, yet hopeful future but needs your help. The reality of living a very different life outside of the hospital has set in and the community and family have come together to rally around this fine young woman and is asking for your help in transitioning her home and dealing with the utterly unimaginable rehabilitation they face.
She wants so much to be able to be involved in daily life of her children and function in her own home.
Cortney is very strong willed and we as a family and community want to give her every advantage possible. She will not only survive this illness, she will thrive and “Run Her Race” with purpose and fulfill the tasks that God has placed before her.
Cortney and Bobby just recently purchased their farm home, they have had volunteers who have generously offered to build her a ramp for wheelchair accessibility, but they will also need their home retrofitted for the tough road ahead.
We all know a house doesn't become a home until it is filled with the love of a family. With your support, the dream can be realized!
Please remember that there are many other expenses for this family that are not covered, such as trips to the Richmond hospital to visit Cortney, meals, gas, hotel rooms and the never-ending bills that will await them when Cortney gets home.
Thank you so much for all your prayers and support.
