A young veteran's suicide due to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), has a way of knocking a mother and family to their hands and knees.

Lance Corporal Cortez R. Jamison was eager to serve his country and enlisted in the Marine Corps directly after his high school graduation. He didn't spend much time in the states, with tours of duty to Iraq and Afghanistan. The brain's fight or flight response can become "stuck" in high gear after experiencing trauma. This can cause an injury to the brain, resulting in PTSD and proven in brain scans. The military diagnosed Cortez R. Jamison with PTSD, dispersed medication with a couple of online counseling sessions days before they released him with an 'other than honorable' discharge in January 2021.

Left without benefits to afford counseling and medication, Cortez R. Jamison sadly took his own life on June 29th, 2021.
