Hello, my name is Louie Cortez and I am the creator and designer of the Cortez Holiday Light Show located in Topeka, Kansas. Since 2008, my family and I have provided a holiday light show that is programmed to music and is a free event for the surrounding community. Everything in the show including the lights, controllers, and anything else you see in the show is personally bought by me. The light show operates at a negative income, meaning we do not make any money off of the light show. We do accept donations for a local nonprofit here in town but only keep a portion to cover small expenses such as new light strands.
This year, on the evening of January 4 we had a small electrical fire happen outside in the display. This fire caused damage to three of our controllers and wiring that is required to run the show. At the moment the estimated cost of repairs is close to two or $3000. Normally I am able to cover the cost of one controller but due to the large amount of damage I am unable to purchase new equipment for this year show.
The Cortez holiday light show has been a staple for the Topeka community during the holiday seasons. Our display is used to spread holiday cheer and to create memories with families around the Topeka area and surrounding communities. The funds donated will be used to cover the cost of replacing equipment and supplies needed to fix the show.
here is a breakdown of what needs to be replaced so far.
2 RGB Controllers - $480 a piece
1 16 Channel Controller - $270
Electrical cords - $200-$400
LED Lights - $200-$300
Security Cable and Locks - $100
