Cortena was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer in July of 2023. She is the oldest of three siblings, and to know Cortena is to know a passionate, giving, kind-hearted soul. As her little sister, I've always looked up to her for advice, knowing she would do-so in love while also holding you accountable. This character trait has also been displayed in her career path as a Financial Coach, in which she spends her days planting the seeds of financial freedom into her clients' lives. She has helped many people, ranging from relatives, past classmates, and even strangers on their path to generational wealth. She has a genuine passion for what she does, and this diagnosis has made it difficult to focus on her health while also doing what she loves. As an entrepreneur, being a Financial Coach is her main source of income, making it tough to choose between health and wealth. Although she does practice the techniques of generating savings, medical expenses along with everyday spending has become a barrier at times.
Throughout these past 2 years, she has undergone 5 cycles of chemotherapy and 2 rounds of radiation. Both rounds of radiation took place during the year of 2024 - June and October. During this same year, we were able to celebrate Cortena going into remission in August. Unfortunately, new cancer cells were found in August of 2025, and she will be beginning an additional round of radiation in less than a week. It has been very difficult witnessing the ups and downs of Cortena's journey, but she has been a true trooper. She has not given up, and is actually making the brave decision to move from Mississippi to Texas in September of 2025 - in hopes for more effective care on this journey. The current facility has done all they can for now, and we believe MD Anderson will have better resources for Cortena's condition. We know this move will be costly, which is why we're asking for financial support at this time. All contributions will go towards Cortena's relocation expenses, food costs, and medical bills.
As one can imagine, this has been a strenuous journey for Cortena, but she fights each and every day, believing and trusting in God's plan for her life. We are excited to share Cortena's testimony in the end, and each contribution will help us get a step closer to her recovery.
