Corrina’s Journey Against Leukemia
It weighs heavy on my heart to even write this, thank you to everyone that has taken the time to click this link and read my story .
On May 8th, 2019 I was given the worst news anyone could ever hear. I was told I have Cancer in my blood. I don’t know why or what came over me, but a week prior, I took it upon myself to go the the urgent care & request some labs (this was on a Friday). That Sunday they called and said my labs were concerning and I should see my primary physician soon. Monday, I saw my doctor and all she said was she needed more blood work done. A few days passed and it was soon Wednesday, I was called to come into the office. My doctor sat down with me and told me that my labs came back and it showed that I am producing a lot of white blood cells and its rapidly increasing. (average is 6k-10k) i was at 19,000. I was referred to a blood/cancer specialist here in Rancho Mirage to confirm and he too said the same thing. More labs were done and a bone marrow biopsy...
As of May 10th, 2019 I was diagnosed with “Acute promyelocytic leukemia”. My doctor admitted me into the hospital (May 13) right away because of how fast my WBC was escalating and was told I would soon be at high risk. He wanted to start chemo treatment as soon as possible ..
I was in the hospital for a total of 26 days for my first round of Chemotherapy (May 13- June 8) and then I was discharged. I am currently on day 30 , Post chemo . Im reaching out to each and everyone one of you to ask for your hand in prayer and support because I need that more than anything right now. I AM STRONG, I HAVE FAITH AND I WILL NOT LET THIS TAKE OVER MY BODY.
On June 12th I was told that although I’m in remission , it is best that I do 3 more rounds of treatment. I was readmitted into the hospital for round 2 and once I was I released, I was rushed to the ER because of high fever and chills. I ended up with a a sepsis infection and i had to stay in the ICU to be monitored. Thankfully, I was transferred to a regular room but had to take 4 different antibiotics to make sure the virus was suppressed. After a week in the hospital I was released once again but am currently taking more antibiotics as a precaution .
As of August 20th, I found out that my leukemia is worse than we thought . I now have an FTL3 and NPM1 mutation that puts me at high risk for relapse. It saddens me to say that I am going to be needing a bone marrow transplant to be 100% cancer free. This will require me to stay at the CITY OF HOPE for the 100+ days post transplant and be away from my special needs daughter.
We are on the verge of finding me a donor! Please if you have not done so, register!! All you have to do is swab and you can potentially be my match! It’s very unfortunate that it ended this way but i still have hope. I was prescribed Chemotherapy pills called RYDAPT to kill off my mutation so I will now take oral and IV chemo.

I am also going in on September 18th for my fourth round of consolidation, which will have me admitted in the hospital for another 6 days. Then a follow up visit on Oct 1st to determine what the regime plan is for my transplant.
Due to these setbacks, my journey is going to be longer than expected but happy to have the City Of Hope. They are the #1 hospital in California that specializes in cancer, specifically Leukemia.
I have a special needs daughter named Vida, that I must fight and live for and a family that is waiting for me. Due to my daughter’s own health issues, it’s going to be a struggle because I am going to be away and not be able to attend nor care for her for awhile. I am also going to be off of work for a few months while undergoing treatment and I’m worried about struggling financially.
Prior to this I was working two jobs and on top of that I’m a single mother. I’m reaching out during this difficult time of need to ask for any help♥️ This will be continuous for the next few months and I want to make sure my daughter is taken care of , physically , mentally, emotionally and financially as well as my family or for any medical bills not covered . I appreciate everyone for being here during my time of need.
Every donation, big or small COUNTS! I am truly blessed to have such an amazing community that supports me, I thank you all so much !”
