Help Needed for the Corrales Family
On Saturday, March 13th, Marta, her son Abel, daughter Gaby and Gaby’s boyfriend, Jairo escaped from their burning apartment building with their 2 dogs and the clothes on their backs.

How They Got Out
Video of Fire
Around 5:30 pm, a neighbor banged on the Corrales' door and yelled that the apartment next to them was on fire. The Corrales’ tried to leave through the front door but the flames were too big and blocked their exit. The fire approached quickly and the family knew the only way to safety was to jump off their tall second story balcony. Mom and Jairo climbed to the top of the railing and jumped. Gaby threw their little dog, Bailey down to a neighbor and then jumped for Jairo to catch her. Abel was the last one to safety. He made sure Big Girl Sassy made it over the edge to Jairo before jumping down himself. Marta’s leg required medical care, but the others made it out with bruising and scratches.

Everything Is Gone
Nearly everything in their home was destroyed. Water and smoke damaged ALL of their furniture. Most of their clothes cannot be salvaged.
When the family was given a short amount of time in their burned apartment, the only salvageable items found were Marta’s purse, some clothes, grandma’s suitcase with special family belongings, pictures in 3 melted frames, and a pack of water bottles.
Red Cross provided the family with a hotel room on Saturday and 4 days later, their landlord moved them into another unit in their apartment complex. The Corrales family has renter’s insurance but they are starting over with nothing and expect a minimal amount from insurance.
Your Donations are Appreciated
Money received will go towards wages lost due to missed work, Marta's medical bills, and replacing things insurance won't cover. Our hope is to bless this beautiful family above and beyond! As of Wednesday, they each had a mattress, blanket, pillow, towel, (and that’s it!). Here is a link to the Target Registry friends set up for them.
About the Corrales Family
Marta’s laughter is contagious. She loves her kids with her entire heart and has a huge smile just like them. Marta works at Northwest University six days a week. She wakes up at 3:00 am to get to her job and then cleans houses after work. She cleans homes even on Saturdays, her only day off. Abel and Gaby love and respect their mom. They admire her strength and appreciate her sacrifice. They are hard working just like she is and do their best to care for her.
Abel is a man of few words (except for when he’s with his sister). He works as an EMT, an excellent profession for someone able to remain so calm and collected while helping his family to safety. Abel is easy-going, funny and caring. His sister, Gaby, looks up to him and thinks of him as both big brother and father-figure.
Gaby is an excellent student, bubbly and down-to-earth. She will tell you like it is. She is empathetic like her brother and perseveres with grit similar to her mom. Her family is grateful her hero boyfriend, Jairo was there to catch Gaby, Abel and Bailey.
