I am very grateful to Corona Concert Series for their idea to so kindly and generously, with full enthusiasm and encouragement, to promote my work and invite me to be on their concert series in order to help an artist like me continue to create and continue to be an artist during this difficult time dealing with the challenges caused by covid19.
This Corona Concert Series concert-fundraiser titled "A Gift Of Light" will be on May 15, 2020 at 8:00PM (EST) broadcast live on www.facebook.com/coronaconcertseries Here is the full program featuring works by Erik Satie, Federico Mompou, Charles Coleman and Steve Holtje, as well as original works of mine:
- Rhythmic Movement (2012)
- Left Hand Path (2016)
- Bulgarian Prelude (Tribute to Ginastera) 2016
Erik Satie (1866-1925): Gnossienne No. 4 (1891)
Steve Holtje (b. 1961): 3 Gymnopedies (2018):
- Gymnopedie No. 1 (for Erik Satie)
- Gymnopedie No. 2 (For Bill Evans)
- Gymnopedie No. 3 (for Karen Leslie Nicholls)
Charles Coleman (b.1968): Effluence (2018)
Tania Stavreva - The Bright Side of the Moon (2018)
Federico Mompou (1893-1987) - Secreto from Impresiones Intimas (1911-1914)
- Resonating Crystals (2017)
- A Gift of Light (2019)
I have decided to include in this 40min long solo piano program, pieces that are not focused so much on a big volume of showy and intense pianistic virtuosity of the standard or modern piano repertoire but on pieces that are more atmospheric, sensual and emotional, mixing well known (Satie, Mompou) composers with new music (Holtje, Coleman) living composers. So, in this program after "Bulgarian Prelude" some of my long term fans will see a different side of me :) This particular program is accessible, inspiring and engaging, each piece to me has light, inspiration and passion for life - something so many of us need today during the challenging times we are going through with covid19. While to me Satie's GnossienneNo. 4 is a bit more mysterious and Mompou's "Secreto" a bit wondering and melancholic, those contracts and emotions really blend with the idea of searching for the positive and each composer masterfully bring us through a journey of musical moods and colors that inspire. In my interpretation, this is what I am aiming for: putting together a program that brings positive energy and light. The word "corona" in Bulgarian (Bulgaria is where I am from ) means a crown. It is actually a beautiful word - royal and impressive. I hope by charging myself with love and light, through the beautiful music Satie, Mompou, Coleman and Holtje wrote, to be able to give a gift of light to you to take home and share with others.
This concert is completely free and donations are optional and very much appreciated if you are in a position to help. Corona Concert Series asked me to create this GoFundMe page so that way all donations can go 100% to me. They do not take anything. I appreciate very much their time to present me, as well as their encouragement to find courage in myself to ask for your support during this difficult time and all the challenges I have been facing.
