Our Boss, Paul Dimino has been a fixture on the Upper East Side for the last 30 yrs. He first started off as Yorkville Fishery, then Yura & Co and now as Corner Café & Bakery.
As the Corona Virus has crippled the majority of businesses in the city, Paul has tried to stay open for the community and his staff.
Regulars come in wearing huge smiles of appreciation that we are still open for take out and delivery service. And you can hear through the phone lines, sighs of relief when we answer the phone. We are so grateful for all the support but it has come time to realize the reality that we just cannot continue.
Many of Paul’s core staff have been with him from the beginning or soon after. He often jokes that none of us were married or had kids when we were all hired and how come no one ever leaves!!! That’s actually the easiest question to answer. He is as true blue as they come and has treated us all with the utmost respect and decency, making us all feel like family. He has been there for us through many of our individual personal experiences, both good and bad and has supported us through the good and especially the bad.
We all gathered to see how we could help the man who is like the head of our extended family and thought of GOFUNDME. Paul would never initiate starting a fund for himself but we thought we could do something for him to show our endless gratitude so that he may get through this and hopefully recover.
