A Mother’s Plea: Help Me Keep My Family Together During the Hardest Time of Our Lives
My name is Cornelia, and I’m a mother of four, a wife, and a woman who has always done her best to stay strong for her family and help others in their time of need. I never imagined I’d be the one asking for help—but today, I am. My world is crumbling around me, and I’m desperately reaching out for support.
My husband has been fighting bladder cancer for the past 18 years. In 2021, we were filled with hope when he went into remission—we thought we had finally beaten it. But in May 2024, our worst fears returned. A biopsy revealed the cancer was back, more aggressive than ever, and had spread to both of his kidneys. His doctors advised removing both kidneys and starting dialysis, but we chose to begin treatment first. He has been in and out of the hospital, courageously battling Stage 4 bladder cancer. Watching the love of my life suffer while trying to remain strong for our family has been unimaginably painful.
Then, just a few weeks ago, two of my sons were in a horrible car accident that turned our lives upside down. One of my sons suffered a broken femur, a broken foot, and a fractured eye. My other son ended up with a dislocated hip, a fractured eye, and a slightly collapsed lung. Both are now bedridden, in constant pain, and unable to work. I’m doing everything I can to care for them day and night, but seeing them hurt like this is heartbreaking—and it has added an enormous amount of stress to an already overwhelming situation.
As if that heartbreak wasn’t enough,
Just one week after their accident, tragedy struck again—my third son was also involved in a separate car accident. Now, all of our family vehicles are gone, leaving us with no transportation. With three sons injured and my husband in active cancer treatment, not having a car has made everything so much harder. I struggle daily to find rides to get my husband to his hospital visits and treatments. Getting important errands done is a challenge we face every single day.
All of this has fallen on me while I try to care for my 13-year-old daughter, who still needs her mother’s love, attention, and stability. But I am stretched so thin—physically, emotionally, and financially. I can’t work because I have no one to help care for my husband or sons, and we’ve fallen behind on rent and other basic necessities. I am terrified of losing our home—the last safe place we have.
To make matters worse, I’m facing my own health battles, but I’ve had to put my needs aside to care for everyone else. I’m exhausted, overwhelmed, and truly at my breaking point.
I’ve always been the one others turned to, but now I am the one in need. If you’re able to help—whether with a donation, no matter how small, or by sharing our story—it would mean the world to me and my family. Your kindness could help us pay rent, cover medical bills, get legal support, and simply survive this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for caring.
With love and gratitude,
Cornelia
