Hello! My name is Elyn, a film student at Vancouver Film School, joined by my team of fellow passionate student filmmakers and we’re raising funds to help bring our short film Corn to life.
About the Film
Corn is a dark comedy that follows Dennis after he gets invited to his boss Leonard’s home upon receiving a promotion in the company. During dinner, Dennis eats corn “incorrectly,” triggering Leonard to attack him for his poor dinner etiquette. The incident starts a ripple effect that contains public humiliation, termination, and psychological torment. Haunted by the experience, Dennis finds the courage to confront Leonard in his office – not with violence, but by silently eating corn the “correct” way.
Why This Story Matters
The story takes an ordinary world and something as mundane as the concept of eating corn and pushes it to the extreme. It highlights the themes of arbitrary power and the abuse of authority that are seen both inside and outside the workplace. By the end, the story argues that fear only holds power when it is obeyed, but reclaiming one’s agency, even through a small, symbolic act, can dismantle an oppressor’s control.
Our Goal: $3000 CAD
