Co Cork Beekeepers have recently been involved in monitoring and trapping Asian Hornets in the Cork area. Cork has 1200km of coastline and we would like to set up strategic monitoring by our beekeepers in the coastal region. Each trap with bait costs Eu50.00
Why we need your help
Beekeepers in County Cork are facing a new and urgent threat: the invasive Asian hornet (Vespa velutina). This predator poses a serious danger to honeybees, wild pollinators, and biodiversity. A single Asian hornet colony can destroy thousands of bees, weakening hives and threatening local food production that depends on pollination.
Early detection is critical. The only way to prevent this invasive species from establishing in Ireland is through careful monitoring and rapid response. That’s why we need to raise funds for specialized monitoring traps. These traps allow us to spot hornets before they spread, giving us the best chance to protect our bees, our crops, and our environment.
By supporting this effort, you’re not just helping local beekeepers—you’re helping safeguard pollination, biodiversity, and the future of our natural heritage in Cork and beyond.
