Hi my name is Aurora and I have made this page to help my mum.

In 2024 my mum had a fusion of L4-S1 where they had to go through her tummy first then 7 days later through her back.

That was awful but we thought it would be the last of her back issues.

However, last year her upper back started getting worse and her middle back was hunching over and was beginning to squash her heart and lungs.

Unfortunately that meant in December last year she needed to be fused from T2-L1. That was on December 10 and then they had to go back in 2 days later to readjust and replace some of the screws. Because the operations were so big, she had lots of blood and plasma transfusions and spent 6 days in the ICU.

2 months later and my mums hump in her middle back has gotten better but her neck and the part of her back between the 2 fusions is now having a lot of pain. Mum can’t turn her head properly or raise her arms up above her shoulders, wash her own hair, shower normally, dress herself, drive, cook, do any cleaning, put on shoes, sit, stand or walk for very long, and if we have to go somewhere further away she needs to be pushed in a wheelchair.

This has been a big change for all of us but I know it really upsets Mum that she can’t do the things she used to do for herself and us. Especially when she drops something on the floor and can’t just pick it up herself, she has to wait for one of us to get it for her.

At her most recent visit with her surgeon she has finally been allowed to go to rehab a couple of days a week for the next couple of months. Which is step forward in her long and very painful journey.

Any money we raise will go towards helping to pay Mum’s medical bills, medications and for assistance aids for around the house so she can do more stuff independently and to support me and my 10 year old brother
