All those that have known and loved Corina, Will remember her spontaneous tasty meals she would whip up in a matter of minutes even when it appeared like there was very minimal food or ingredients in the kitchen; others will reminisce about Corina’s loud unique voice and laughter, and will never forget her beautiful soulful sound she gifted us with when she sang her favorite oldies accompanying it with the 4-corners dance move. The way she scrunched up her nose as she hit those high notes and if you were the lucky chosen one, she’d sing and gesture at you as if she was telling you a melodic story. She most definitely was the life of the party; always late but worth the wait. But most importantly, she Will be remembered by the amounts of love she shared with everyone around her including her nephews and nieces.
Corina Bernal was the 5th child of a total of 8 children born to Ruben Bernal and Ramona Bernal. She was born March 12, 1960 in El Centro, California. For the 1st 10 of her childhood years, she traveled with her Father back and forth from Calexico to Salinas and vice versa due to Seasonal Farm Work. Most of Corina’s cousins resides in Calexico and it was always a party when they’d arrive in Calexico. Eventually, she remained in Salinas for the duration of her teen and adult years with a few minor ephemeral city stops. Here she met Esmael Alvarado, a guitarist of the New Miracles Band, with whom she bore her two daughters, Delilah and Vanessa. Their relationship lasted but a few years, and Soon after, she met Francisco Torres (Paco) who became a staple, and an important addition to the Bernal Family, also known as “Tio” Paco. Corina swam in adventure with Paco and was pushed to excel; she found herself living life with Dance competitions, camping, rafting, celebrations both grand and humble, introductions to delicious delicacies, becoming restaurant owners, and even pursued Cosmetology and Dentistry Diplomas, etc.
Oppositely, Corina felt her first loss, when her Brother Ruben passed away many years ago, soon after her Father Ruben went to be with the Lord, a few years later a major irreparable loss hit home again when her first born Delilah passed away in 2010, yet again when she didn’t think she could take any more loss, the sting of Tio Paco leaving us was felt throughout the entire Bernal Family, and lastly Corina’s youngest brother Ernest took his leave earlier this year. Corina held strong holding together the shattered pieces of her heart until finally flights of angels led her to her rest on September 8th, 2021. Although she lost her life In a tragic accident, She is now with her Loved Ones in paradise. The Bernal family and everyone who loved her and were Blessed to have known her, are forever more indelibly marked by the loss of such an unforgettable human being. You will forever be in our hearts Mom, eternally and unceasingly.
