As we grow older it seems more and more of our friends and family are affected by some kind of mental illness. This is because there are lots of people that are affected by it on a day-to-day basis. 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness in a given year. The friends and family that are suffering, that you're aware of, are merely the tip of the iceberg. Look around, the person who may seem the happiest could easily be suffering the worst. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide but we hardly hear about it. The negative stigma associated with mental illness is causing people who could otherwise receive help and become better, to not seek help. Nearly 60% of adults with a mental illness didn't receive any mental health servicing in the previous year. This lack of help easily diminishes the quality of life for sufferers and, in some cases, even causes them to end their own life. 90% of those who die by suicide have some kind of underlying mental illness. And suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S.

This is why Cori has chosen to forego any gifts this year and hopes to spread awareness and help a cause that is close to her heart.
