Corey's Medical and Living Expenses Fund

Hello, my name is Linda Silas and on May 10, 2021 my son Corey was involved in a horrific automobile accident. His car was hit by a train on his way to work. As a result, he sustained extensive injuries including a severe traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. He is truly blessed to be alive.

I was told by the medical staff at Lakeland Regional Health that his injuries were so severe that there was nothing they could do for him. I was given two choices: let him go to hospice and keep him comfortable until his demise or let him come home and let him pass away peacefully there. However, I let them know I knew someone who could help him because I truly believe that "with God all things are possible." I was being pressured to make a decision, however God intervened. While we were waiting to get a second opinion, Corey gained consciousness and has been making tremendous progress. He has had several surgeries and has been on a ventilator most of his stay at LRH Trauma ICU unit. All praises to God, he has been taken off the ventilator and is able to move all of his extremities to some extent. The medical staff is amazed at his progress and in fact some are calling his progress a "miracle." One of the nurses told us that she's been working in Trauma ICU for nineteen (19) years and had never witness anyone recovering from his type of injury. Corey has been in Trauma ICU since May 10, 2021.

The medical staff at Lakeland Regional Health highly recommended Corey to be transferred to Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehabilitation. It's one of the top ten spinal cord injury and brain injury rehabilitation centers in the nation. His insurance company denied the request twice, but LHR staff was adamant and persistent in their effort to get him to Shepherd Center. And for that we are so grateful because their persistence paid off. He has been approved to transfer and finally leave for Shepherd Center on Friday, July 9, 2021. The length of time he will be there is uncertain and is dependent on his progress.

It is our desire that Corey's story will be an encouragement to others to never give up. It's a great testament to having faith in God's unlimited power. There's nothing too hard for Him!

Due to his type of injuries and treatment needed, medical expenses not covered by insurance will be enormous. Any assistance you can provide is much needed and will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. God bless each of you.
