My lovely brother Corey, who just turned 30 years old, was diagnosed last August with Stage IV colon cancer. Corey began chemotherapy infusions shortly after this diagnosis; this past May he had surgery at MGH to remove the primary tumor. Corey has been very strong every step of the way and he plans to continue this fight with a positive and powerful attitude.
Corey has returned to Chicago, which has been his home for the past 5 years, to continue his everyday life. Corey works for a manufacturing company Monday through Friday; he also plays in a local Chicago band on weekends. Music is his defining and absolute passion.
Corey needs to resume a targeted chemotherapy regimen that will inevitably cause debilitating fatigue and intense stomach pain. He will have no choice but to take days off from work and put his life on hold until he feels well enough to return to work. His employers have been extremely generous but Corey is out of sick days and his medical expenses are piling up. Corey is doing his best to focus on the parts of his life that make him the happiest.
Colon cancer is extremely rare in someone of Corey’s age. He has been trying very hard to work, play in his band, see his friends and girlfriend, and also cook, clean, do laundry, food shop, etc. Needless to say, this is a very difficult time not only for Corey, but also the people that love him. While I know that there is a limited amount of things that I can do for him, I do know that I can help him enjoy what he truly loves in life so that he does not have to stress about the financial strain that this disease has put on him. Corey is one of the sweetest, most unique, loving, and musically talented individuals I have ever met. He is my big brother. I am requesting any help that you may be able to give him so that he can conserve his energy, enjoy the things he loves, and fight this cancer.
